
The City Clerk serves as the Elections Official for the City of Blue Lake and is responsible for managing the City's municipal elections impartially. Responsibilities include issuing candidates' informational packets, receiving and reviewing candidates' statements, processing petitions and ballot measures, preparing resolutions and election notices, and complying with other provisions of the California Elections Code as necessary.
The general municipal elections of the City are consolidated with and held on the same day as the Statewide General Municipal Elections in November of even-numbered years. The City contracts with the Humboldt County Elections Department to administer its elections, including the publishing of all election materials, the mailing of sample ballots, the hiring of election officers, and the counting of ballots.
To qualify to run for City Council, you must be a citizen of the United States, be a registered voter, reside in the City of Blue Lake, and be 18 years of age or older. During the filing period, nominees must obtain at least 20, but no more than 30, signatures of registered voters who reside within the Blue Lake city limits and are registered voters at their Blue Lake Residence.

Next General Municipal Election: November 3, 2026
- Two (2) four year terms on the Blue Lake City Council will be open for election in November.
- The Declaration for Candidacy and Candidate Statements must be filed between July 15 and August 9, 2026, with additional election information to be provided by July 1.
