Next General Municipal Election: November 3, 2026

The City Clerk serves as the Elections Official for the City of Blue Lake and administers municipal elections in accordance with the California Elections Code, including managing candidate filings, statements, petitions, and required notices.

City elections are held in November of even-numbered years and are consolidated with the Statewide General Election. The Humboldt County Elections Department administers election operations, including publishing materials, mailing ballots, and counting votes.

To run for City Council, candidates must be U.S citizebs, at least 18 years old, registered voters, abd residents of Blue Lake. Candidates must also collect 20 to 30 valid signatures from registered voters within city limits during the nomination period.

Two (2) four year terms on the Blue Lake City Council will be open for election in November. 

Nomination Period - July 13, 2026 to August 7, 2026 *Extended to August 12th* 

In accordance with CA Elections Code Sections 10220-10230, this is the period when individuals officially receive, circulate and file nomination papers for candidacy. During this time Nomination Papers are issued by the City Clerk to any eligible candidate during regular business hours.

Candidates are encouraged to contact the City Clerk to schedule an appointment to take out and/or file nomination papers. Appointments can be made by contacting the City Clerks Office at 707-668-5655 or cityclerk@bluelake.ca.gov. Please see the Candidate Calendar above for important dates and timelines.
