Blue Lake Bike Park
"If We Build It, They Will Ride"
A Place for the Whole Family
Though the park is less than 5 acres, Blue Lake is a small community of just over 1200 residents, nestled in the heart of the Redwood Forest and adjacent coastline. The property designated for this project comes as a unique opportunity as the City has struggled to identify an appropriate space for this project. The park will be accessible by the entire city population and serve the community as a sole bike park, bordering nearby trails that overlook the Mad River and meander through lush pastures within Blue Lake. The park will be located within an opportunity zone, in which the City foresees this development adding refreshing perspective to our Powers Creek District and the businesses surrounding the park. Additionally, this site will serve as an amenity to our surrounding communities including Arcata, Mckinleyville, Fieldbrook, and Eureka.
The Layout
By design, this park will bring together participants of all ages and abilities. There is a designated area for kids and small children riding small bikes and striders. There will be a paved pump track to serve youth and developing skateboarders, scooter riders, roller skaters, bike riders, and wheelchair users. Also, there is a moderately difficult bike park area for parents and advanced bicyclists. Finally, there are proposed benches, lighting, water fountains, and bathrooms to encourage spectatorship from friends, family, and community members.
